Step 1 — Pick the dates before anything else
Two calendars decide your window, and both are outside your control.
Align with the Canton Fair phases
The Canton Fair 2026 runs twice at the Pazhou complex in Guangzhou: the 139th session (Spring) from April 15 to May 5 and the 140th session (Autumn) from October 15 to November 4 (Yucheng IP Law, Trip.com). Each session splits into three five-day phases, and exhibitors from one phase pack up before the next arrive — so the phase, not just the session, is what you book around:
- Phase 1 — electronics, appliances, machinery, hardware & tools, vehicles
- Phase 2 — consumer goods, gifts, home decor, furniture, kitchenware
- Phase 3 — textiles & garments, shoes, bags, toys, health, food
Halls open 09:30–18:00 daily. If your catalogue spans two phases (say electronics and home decor), you either extend the trip across the break days or accept covering one phase properly.
Avoid the two dead zones
Nothing ships and few factories answer during Chinese New Year — February 17, 2026, with the official holiday running February 15–23 and most factories closing two to four weeks around it (Titoma, ShipBob). The Yiwu market itself is fully closed roughly February 13–28, 2026 (Yiwu Market Guide). The second dead zone is Golden Week, October 1–7, 2026, when the whole country is on holiday (LyrikTrip). Note the Autumn Canton Fair opens October 15, safely after Golden Week — but if you add factory visits, don't schedule them in that first week of October.
Step 2 — Sort the visa
Two routes, depending on your passport.
The 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit now applies to nationals of 55+ countries — including the US, UK, Canada and most of the EU — provided you hold an onward ticket to a third country or region within 240 hours and enter through an eligible port. Guangzhou was added to the eligible ports in November 2025 (China Briefing, China Discovery). The classic pattern is fly in via Guangzhou or Hong Kong, then out to a nearby third country (Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul). Confirm your nationality and the exact port rules before you rely on it — the list changes.
If transit doesn't fit — you want more than 10 days, or a return ticket to your home country — apply for a business (M) visa. Canton Fair pre-registration produces an invitation letter that supports the application (MS Advisory). Pre-registration for overseas buyers is free via the official Canton Fair site.
Step 3 — The itinerary: Guangzhou to Yiwu
The backbone of a first serious trip is Canton Fair in Guangzhou → Yiwu International Trade City. The Canton Fair gives you factory-direct suppliers and larger-order categories; Yiwu gives you tens of thousands of booths of small-MOQ consumer goods (toys, accessories, stationery, gifts) under one roof, open year-round (Top Trade Sourcing). Guangzhou South to Yiwu is a direct high-speed train of roughly 7–8 hours, or a ~2-hour flight (China Highlights).

How many days is enough?
Beyond five hall-days without a capture system, fatigue degrades your data faster than extra booths help. A tight, well-prepared 10-day trip that covers one Canton Fair phase plus three Yiwu days beats a scattered three-week wander. Depth per supplier beats raw booth count.
Step 4 — Budget the trip
